Bangkok
Annie and I met in Bangkok in 1991 when she was returning from her European trip with Trish. So, in some ways, the first part of this trip has a sense of nostalgia for us. Back then we travelled by train to Hua Hin and then on to Ko Samui. This time we are catching local trains down the Malay peninsula. The route is: Bangkok 3 days, Hua Hin 2 days, Ban Krut 2 days, Chumphon 1 day, Georgetown 6 days, Ipoh 3 days, Kuala Lumpur 4 days, Melacka 3 days, Singapore 3 days. We have enjoyed reacquainting ourselves with Bangkok. The air is thick and heavy. Clear mornings build to stormy evenings, so we have wandered the narrow lanes in the mornings, had siestas in the afternoons before venturing out for dinner. We look forward to our first rail leg to Hua Hin tomorrow.
